Jo Barton

Jo Barton

I am Jo and I have a special interest in working with men and women who have experienced trauma, and in particular trauma as a result of recent or non-recent sexual violence. I also work with a wide range of clients experiencing difficulties that include anxiety, depression, trauma and loss.

I have worked at Cruse Bereavement Care, the Margaret Jackson Centre in Exeter and Devon Rape Crisis & Sexual Abuse Services. I also had the privilege of working as a counsellor and support worker for the Truth Project, part of the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA), where my role was to support victims and survivors when they shared their experiences of child sexual abuse.  These sessions were conducted face to face, online and by telephone.

I qualified as an integrative counsellor at the Heartwood Centre for Counselling & Psychotherapy in Dartington.  I am a Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (MBACP) and the ethics and professional standards of BACP are at the heart of my practice.

A Safe Space

Whatever the problem or situation that is causing you concern or distress in your life, I will listen without judgement and encourage honest and transparent communication in a safe and confidential space, that will enable you to explore the issues you are facing.

Reaching a point in your life when you look for support can be a pivotal moment and a great opportunity for change.  I am here to provide a space to listen to you and will work to build an honest relationship in a reflective, non-judgemental way, helping you to develop your understanding and awareness of what you are doing and why you are really doing it.
