Barbara Matheson

I’m very pleased to say I’m now back at the practice, seeing clients in person again, although I still offer the option of online sessions if this method suits you better.

With the Coronavirus pandemic affecting our usual way of life, your wellbeing and mental health may be suffering or you may be having problems coping with the changes to your life and the way you live it.

Counselling can help. Exploring your feelings through one-to-one discussion can provide you with support and non-judgemental understanding. It can also lead to new ways to deal with or live with the issues that are having an impact on your mental health and wellbeing.

I work with individuals from age 18 upwards and have a special interest in and experience with relationships, self-esteem and confidence, grief and loss, stress and anxiety, university student issues, and womens’ health and wellbeing,

I’m a very experienced and qualified counsellor. A registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapists (BACP), and work to the code of ethics set down by the BACP ethical framework.

I’m also a qualified and experienced supervisor offering supervision to qualified and student counsellors, and those working in job roles where it’s helpful for their wellbeing to have a safe caring space to explore the work and its impact on them.

Prior to becoming a counsellor, I worked as a freelance learning and development consultant specialising in management development, and work place bullying and stress, and as a freelance licensed trainer for the award-winning Springboard Womens’ Development Programme. My work also included coaching and mentoring.

I currently offer a low cost 30-minute informal consultation; an opportunity to meet with me, find out more about my approach, and then decide if you feel comfortable working with me as your counsellor.  This meeting can take place in person at the practice or online.
